The maker, Rizwan's Ideas, made a video on DIY vacuum cleaner 3 years ago. A lot of people loved the original, but many wanted Wi-Fi and IoT features, so he decided to upgrade it with better tech and smarter controls. When he received the DIY Flexi Robot Car Kit from OSOYOO, it turned out to be the perfect base for his new and improved version.
The kit comes with Arduino Mega, which will serve as the brain, along with ESP8266 Wi-Fi Shield for remote control, a motor driver to control movement, and a battery holder. A voltage meter and power board make sure the system runs smoothly. After connecting all the parts he was able to control the robot via Wi-Fi on the phone.
So to make the robot autonomous, he also added an ultrasonic sensor and a servo motor for obstacle detection, allowing the vacuum to navigate on its own. For the vacuum cleaner, he 3D printed the parts and used a 1000 KV BLDC motor, making it way more strong and powerful than the previous version.
However, the initial design made the robot too tall, so he removed the second plate and mounted the vacuum directly onto the base, making the entire build more compact and efficient. With Wi-Fi control, obstacle detection, and a stronger vacuum system, this new version is a major improvement over the original.
The maker has shared the project files and code online for anyone who wants to build their own. He revealed that he’s working on a DIY drone and asks for his followers to stay tuned for that project.
