The Firefly Automation Controller family introduces a new industrial baseboard that combines Raspberry Pi Compute Module compatibility with a high-performance STM32H7 microcontroller. Engineered for demanding control applications, the system merges real-time processing with extensive connectivity options. Designed for rapid prototyping and deployment in environments such as robotics, automated assembly lines and industrial monitoring, the baseboard offers high-speed interfaces, buffered I/O and full support for sensor and actuator integration. This approach ensures that users benefit from reliable and efficient control even in harsh industrial conditions.

At the core of the design are two IO-Link Class B channels that allow for precise control of thousands of sensor and actuator modules. The channels are equipped with a dedicated 24 V power input and an optional fully isolated IO-Link subsystem supply, ensuring stability and safety. In addition, an onboard FTDI USB-RS232 bridge and high-speed communication lines, tested up to 50 MHz enhance data exchange between the microcontroller and the system-on-module. This careful integration provides real-time performance alongside advanced computing functions.

Connectivity and expansion options further elevate the system’s capabilities. The baseboard includes two M.2 expansion slots with one B-key slot supporting PCIe Gen 3 and USB 3.0/2.0 interfaces and one M-key slot dedicated to NVMe storage. The board supports multiple USB Type-C ports including one that allows programming of both the SoM and MCU firmware. For enhanced networking, the flagship Firefly-5 variant offers dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, optional microprocessor networking and power capacities of up to 200 W via USB PD or 600 W wired, while the Firefly-5lite board provides essential features for lower-cost applications.
